With a scheduled off week in the rearview mirror, racing returned in earnest at the Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway on Saturday night. With the start of the summer stretch and the first of three consecutive points shows in the month of June, all the stars of the speedway were showcased on full display for a swarm of passionate race fans who braved the heat to take in an exciting night of competition.
Gunnar Pio returned to the Clyde for the first time in 2026 and gave Tim West and Julie Sechrist their first win as car owners, parking the East Coast Transponders No. 25 in victory lane after the Hyper Racing Wingless 600 feature. In EVO Fuel Injection Winged 600 action, it was Jason Swavely who stormed from ninth to gather his third feature win in the last four races at the speedway. Billy Logeman shook the monkey off his back and put the Mike Rutherford-owned No. 27o in victory lane against a full field of Border Magic 270s. Brandon Heist took advantage of a wild lapped traffic moment to seize his third win of the year in the Yeti Fence Sportsmans. And Trevor Waegel parked his No. 44s in victory lane for the second time this season, claiming the checkers of the Gretna Graphics 125/4 Stroke 25-lapper.
Hyper Racing Wingless 600
Making his first micro sprint appearance in the northeast in 2026, Kunkletown native Gunnar Pio hopped behind the wheel of the Tim West and Julie Sechrist-owned No. 25 East Coast Transponders Hyper Chassis and wheeled around the Newmanstown bullring as if he had never left, picking up a meaningful victory in Saturday night’s Hyper Racing Wingless 600 A-Main.
Pio started in fourth at the drop of the green flag, but spent each of the first two laps of the A-Main threading the needle between Jace Marshall and Dominic Schmidt in a race for the lead. Using the middle lane of turns 3 and 4 to his advantage, Pio squeezed ahead under the flagstand and completed the pass for good at the end of the second lap.

Pio controlled the race from then on, but still faced some mighty challenges. His first was in the form of Nate Freed, who tracked Pio down from the eighth starting position and threw a slider for the lead just prior to halfway – and just prior to the drop of a caution flag.
Following that restart on lap 13, it was Schmidt who put himself back in contention for the victory. But when Pio changed his line from the top to the bottom, the defending track champion would struggle to find a way past. Even though Schmidt’s No. 3 looked a tad quicker, he was unable to wind up the momentum that he needed running the long ways around turns 3 and 4 to pull alongside Pio and make a bid for the lead.
Pio kept hitting his marks all the way to the checkers, and scored the victory by just a car length over Schmidt at the final flag. Not only was the win Pio’s first of the year – in his first start – it was also the first win for Tim West and Julie Sechrist as car owners, coming just three weeks away from the second running of the East Coast Transponders Nationals at the Clyde on July 3-4.
The win was also meaningful for the team as they paid tribute to the late Kyle Busch, who passed away unexpectedly last month. Pio had done much of his micro sprint racing so far in 2026 while racing across the country for Busch’s micro sprint team. The car Pio drove to victory featured one of Busch’s old steering wheels, as well as a tribute decal on the side panel. And Pio celebrated in the winner’s circle with a trademark “Rowdy bow,” as well.
Schmidt scored his third runner-up finish in the last four races – extending his points lead in the process – while New Zealand’s Kayden Barker collected his first-career podium at the Clyde in his 2026 season debut. Freed finished in fourth, and Lukas Kostic rounded out the top five.

EVO Fuel Injection Winged 600
Against another stout field of EVO Fuel Injection Winged 600 entries, three-time and defending track champion Jason Swavely put on a show on Saturday night, racing up from the ninth position to grab his third win in the last four races at the speedway.
The first five laps of the feature were led by “The Blandon Bandit” Andrew Rothermel, as he set a strong pace running through the middle groove of the speedway and kept both Matt Warner and Brent Ely from finding a way past.
But it only took five laps for Swavely to rocket into the runner-up position. And his Trace Pheasantry No. 14 RTS Chassis wrapped the bottom for the next two sets of corners to take the lead away from Rothermel at the end of lap 6.
Once getting into clean air, Swavely made a cleaned-up top groove his home for most of the rest of the race. Ely got to second and attempted to track down Swavely from roughly five car lengths back, but was unable to consistently make gains on the Fleetwood driver. A couple of late caution flags failed to change the outcome, as Swavely finished off a dominant performance and took the win.
Ely was able to capture second – his fourth runner-up result of the year – and that effort was good enough to put him back in the points lead by 10 markers over sixth-place finishing Bradley Brown. Brian Kramer won the battle for third in the closing laps against Warner, and USAC East Coast Sprint Cars champion Steven Drevicki scored a fifth-place finish from 12th in a rare return to micro sprint competition.

Border Magic 270
Lady luck hadn’t been much of a friend to Billy Logeman throughout the first portion of the Border Magic 270 season, but things turned around in a big way for the Reinholds native on Saturday night. Logeman dominated the 25-lap feature event to pick up his first 270 win in a little over a year at the track.
The feature started with a little chaos right at the drop of the green flag, as polesitter Jonah Meck got turned sideways right ahead of Logeman, forcing the Weinhold’s Poultry No. 27o RTS Chassis all the way down next to the grass on the frontstretch while the rest of the field scattered behind him.
Logeman was able to recover quickly into the fourth position, while Tommy Rinck set the pace for the first six laps of the race. As Logeman worked his way back up to second prior to a lap 7 caution flag, he put himself in position to pounce on the restart that followed.
After racing side-by-side for a full lap after the drop of the green, Logeman used the middle groove to power around Rinck and complete the pass for the top spot. After finding clean air, Logeman absolutely checked out from the rest of the field behind him, amassing a lead of almost four seconds while racing through lapped traffic.
That lead was only erased due to a caution with five laps remaining, but it didn’t derail Logeman in his efforts for victory. Even surviving a one-lap shootout to end the race, Logeman took the twin checkers five car lengths ahead of his closest competitors, making a statement with his performance.
A last-lap pass gave Brandon Heist a runner-up finish, as he outdueled Rinck to the checkered flag. The run for Rinck was still a good one, as he pocketed his first podium at the Clyde since September of 2024. Mike Rutherford finished with fourth, and points leader Nick Skias finished outside the top two for the first time all season, but still collected a fifth-place result. The Border Magic Hard Charger Bonus went to Bret Cronrath, as he advanced nine positions from 20th to 11th during the A-Main.

Yeti Fence Sportsman
In a dramatic Yeti Fence Sportsman A-Main, Jonestown’s Brandon Heist found himself in the right place at the right time and capitalized on the opportunity to collect his third win of the season in the division.
The 2024 track champion started the A-Main from the fourth position, while defending track champion Corey Schmuck, Jr. was the polesitter and the race leader through the first half of the event. As the battling behind Schmuck, Jr.’s No. 26 settled out, Brent Shearer elevated up into the second spot, while Heist found himself in third – what turned out to be the catbird seat – as the race ran down inside of its final 10 laps.
The climactic moment of the race took place with eight laps to go, as Schmuck, Jr. approached a lapped car entering turn 3. Schmuck, Jr.’s machine hopped over the left-rear wheel of the slower vehicle, momentarily leaving his car sideways in front of the rest of the leaders. Shearer yanked his machine up to the high side and lost a ton of momentum, while the bottom groove eventually cleared for both Heist and Billy Logeman to sneak through, with Heist speeding off as the new leader.
Heist kept his Mt. Gretna Roller Rink No. 99 RTS Chassis at the front of the field from that point forward, narrowly clearing a few more lapped cars to chalk up the victory and extend his points lead.
A great battle for second over the closing laps was won by Shearer, with Logeman completing the podium in the third spot. Dave Ravel came under the checkers in fourth position, with Justin Harrington finishing off the top five.

Gretna Graphics 125/4 Stroke
Paulsboro, NJ’s Trevor Waegel continued his breakout season at the Clyde on Saturday night, picking up his second win of the 2026 campaign in a dominant, wire-to-wire effort in the Gretna Graphics 125/4 Stroke A-Main.
Waegel started from the pole position and set a speedy pace around the clay, never facing much of a challenge from behind as the first 21 laps of the race ran without a caution flag. While runner-up Seth Gregory attempted to keep Waegel’s HRS Design & Promotions No. 44s RTS Chassis within shouting distance, a four-lap sprint to the finish wasn’t enough to allow him to contend with the Garden State driver.
Waegel took the checkers eight car lengths ahead of Gregory after 25 laps of action, while points leader Justin Harrington probably had the most eventful race of the bunch, as he battled all night to a hard-fought third-place finish. Corey Harting and Mike Coen rounded out the top five.

Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway is back in action next Saturday, June 20, with another regular points show for all five weekly divisions. Gates will swing open at 4:30 p.m., with hot laps beginning the on-track action at 6 p.m. General grandstand admission is just $10, but for those unable to attend, the event will be live streamed via The Cushion.
